Dr. Sane lived in the heart of Pune’s Budhwar Peth, a bustling neighborhood known more for its chaos than calm. And yet, within this concrete maze, she created a haven.
Her home had no electricity, no television, no refrigerator…by choice.
Instead, it was filled with sunlight, birdsong, books, and trees. Her companions were cats, owls, a mongoose, and the hundreds of students who came to learn not just botany, but life itself.
This wasn’t asceticism. It was clarity.
A Legacy Rooted in Simplicity
Dr. Sane was not just a quiet dweller of nature… she was a powerful voice for it. As the former Head of the Botany Department at Abasaheb Garware College, she authored over 30 books on subjects ranging from botany and history to ancient Indian philosophy.
She documented Pune’s rare trees, taught students to see plants as sentient beings, and proved that a simplified life doesn’t limit contribution…it amplifies it.
She didn’t just study life. She lived it. Deliberately, gently, and meaningfully.
