Miyake: The Enduring Love of a Fashion Connoisseur and one of our Best Customer Ever!!

Losing someone you love can leave an indelible mark on your life. But for some, honoring the memory of their loved ones by celebrating their passions is a way to keep their memory alive. This is exactly what a Mumbai-based entrepreneur is doing by hosting an exhibition and sale of Issey Miyake ensembles carefully curated by his late wife and one of our best customer ever, Mrs. Mina Krishnan.

Mrs. Krishnan was a big fan of Issey Miyake’s creations and had built a private collection of his iconic pieces. Her fascination with the designer’s work started when she discovered his clothes in a thrift store in Paris, and she became enamored with his unique approach to fashion.

To pay homage to the pioneering Japanese designer and honor Mrs. Mina Krishnan’s own passion for fashion, her husband Mr. Mohan Krishnann and daughter Ms. Ayesha decided to open up her collection to the public for viewing. The event will be a celebration of both the designer’s legacy and the entrepreneur’s love of fashion.

It’s clear that Mrs. Mina Krishnan’s passion for Issey Miyake’s work ran deep. In an interview, she describes the designer’s clothes as “garments that changed the world” and speaks passionately about the way his creations challenged traditional notions of fashion and clothing.

Mina Krishnan founded Lotus Learning, served as its chairman, and helped establish direct selling in India. She amassed an incredible wardrobe of more than 70 Issey Miyake pieces over the years, from her very first purchase in the 1980s until 2020.

Yet it is impossible to discuss Mrs. Krishnan without mentioning her sunny personality, which is characterized by big hats, daring and eccentric eyewear, and accessories. She has an amazing eye. It wasn’t just about Mina wearing Miyake; it was also about how she customized and personalized the outfits.

When Mina returned from her chemotherapy appointments in Miyake, she would raise her hands in the air and exclaim, “Look at me! ” fondly recalled their family friend architect Ratan J Batliboi who has been entrusted the  responsibility for curating the show.  This was Mrs. Krishnan’s unwavering attitude to live life to the fullest no matter the situation.

Mr. Batliboi goes on to explain that it is almost impossible to speak of Miyake’s art without bringing the term “architectural.” His ongoing pursuit of novel materials, forms, and production methods appeals to an architect’s aesthetic.

The exhibition is set to take place at Khotachiwadi’s Gallery 47-A until March 26. Mr. Krishnan hopes that the event will not only honor the memory of the designer but also inspire others to pursue their passions and celebrate the people they love.

As a premium laundry service provider, Phoenix Laundry is proud to support the exhibition of Issey Miyake ensembles and honor the memory of the designer’s iconic creations as well as honor the legacy of one of his most enduring collectors and a person missed by all at the Phoenix Laundry, Mrs. Mina Krishnan.

We hope that the event will be a success and that it will inspire others to celebrate the life and achievements of their loved ones in many more such meaningful ways.
